A majority of the population can link it to allergy. Each year about 40% of young and 30% of adults suffer from allergies. It will let you sneeze like a crazy person. Some get watery eyes and itchy hives on the skin.

While allergy starts in the eyes or noses its origins are due to the wild behaviour of the immune system of the individual. If you want to know more details about allergies then you must read this blog for a better understanding.

Why allergic reaction takes place?

The immune system is responsible to clear off the allergen. It fights against foreign invaders like viruses and bacteria to protect your health. But if it invades healthy substances it results in allergy. Allergic reactions can trigger by pollen, eggs, and peanuts (since they regard as allergens).

At the time of reaction, the immune system emits antibodies (proteins) which send actions to cells. Then it starts sending histamine that expands the blood vessels leading to allergic symptoms.

Antibodies are single-minded and thus they target only single allergen. As a result, a person allergic to eggs may not allergic to peanuts.

You can expose to allergens by various means like stomach, mouth, nose, eyes, and skin. It will clog the sinuses, inflame the skin, difficulty breathing, and stomach issues.

Which causes the allergy attack?

Some suffer badly from allergies. While the reason is still unknown yet experts reveal that family history has an important role in it.

The common allergens are:

  •  Pollens and plants
  • Mould
  • Touching on any materials or latex
  • Insect bites
  • Foods- soy, wheat, milk, eggs, shellfish, fish, tree nuts, and peanuts
  • Dust mites
  • Medications like penicillin
  • Bee stings
  • Animal dander

What are its symptoms?

The allergy attack ranges from mild to annoying and to severe sometimes life-threatening. It is all about how the body reacts to it and how it enters your body. Severe allergy can cause serious issues namely anaphylaxis. You must rush to the doctor right away for immediate medical care and help.

Some allergy types

Hay fever– It is allergic rhinitis that leads to:

  • Watery, red, and swollen eyes (allergic conjunctivitis)
  • Itchy nose, mouth roof, or eyes
  • Stuffy or runny nose
  • Sneezing

Food allergies– There will be a tingling feeling in the mouth. The face, throat, lips, and tongue will swell up. You can also develop hives. In severe conditions, you can develop anaphylaxis deeming for medical help right away.

Eczema– This skin condition is commonly called atopic dermatitis. Most eczema kinds aren’t allergies. However, it can develop if you are subject to certain things leading to allergic reactions. The immune system of the body will react to the substances (allergens). These will cause no harm to the body. But it is possible to experience a runny nose, sneezing, itching, and hives. These will occur to accompany flaking, peeling, redness, and itching.

Medications– In case you are allergic to any specific substances then you will experience hives, facial swelling, and rash. Wheezing is a common experience too. In worst-case scenarios, it will turn into anaphylaxis.

Stings– biting of insects including bees can cause allergic reactions as well.

There will:

  • Swelling at the sting site (edema)
  • Hives or itching throughout the body
  • Wheezing, cough, chest tightness, and breathing shortness

Apart from medication and food allergies, severe sting reactions can result in anaphylaxis too.

Anaphylaxis: a quick glance

Mainly people who get allergies experience moderate to mild symptoms. Only some serious cases result in anaphylaxis. If in bad condition it can put the body in shock. Latex, insect bites, medications, and food are the allergens that trigger it. The second stage of anaphylaxis will arrive within 12 hours of the first phase. You will experience the sudden emergence of the symptoms.

It will start with a runny nose or mild rash to severe problems like dizziness, fainting, vomiting, nausea, swelling or hives, tight throat, and difficult breathing. Even it leads to no beat of the heart and rapid pulse rate as well.

If you are prone to anaphylaxis or already had attacks doctor will prescribe self-taken medicines. Generic versions of epinephrine auto-injector, Adrenaclick, Audi-Q, Symjepi, and EpiPen are available in the loaded devices. You should keep this handy to prevent yourself from attacks. In the worst-case scenario visit the emergency room immediately.

How to seek relief?

Various treatment options are there for moderate to mild allergies. Decongestants and antihistamines like nasal spray are helpful to manage many symptoms. The doctor will prescribe the inhaler for the patients with allergy-type asthma for easing the attacks. Some may need to inject special antibodies for managing symptoms.

If medication fails to provide the necessary relief then allergy shots become important. The process of this treatment refers to as immunotherapy. It is highly effective for allergic asthma and hay fever. Another immunotherapy kind involves keeping tablets under the tongue. But the sinuses are manageable by over-the-counter medication.

If you develop an allergy it is better to visit a nearby clinic for skin prick tests in London. Book an appointment today.
