Growing blog traffic is an inalienable part of growing business. While it is hard to get much traffic on a new blog during the first year as it is in a sandbox, it is much easier for the owners of established blogs to drive blog traffic. The best way to increase blog traffic is to update old posts and not to create new content, which might take a long time to rank. Quality matters a lot more than quantity in blogging, and you can practically skyrocket your blog traffic if you just make your old posts slightly better. Learn these effective tips on how to drive traffic to your blog today.

9 Simple Ways To Boost Up The Blog Traffic With A Content Update

1. Analyze Current Blog Traffic Stats

No matter how many articles your blog has, you should keep track of their traffic performance. If your blog is brand new, it may take up to a year before you start getting traffic to your blog. Once you establish the website in Google’s eyes, things will get quicker.

Every blog should have Google Analytics and Google Search Console set. While we do not encourage you to keep track of the blog traffic stats daily or even weekly, you should create a Google Sheet where you keep track of the blog traffic performance of your website. Keep track of how many page views each article has monthly. Ideally, each post should bring around 1000 pageviews a month, but you will not always get there. Average blog traffic will also vary depending on the niche you choose, the competition, seasonality, audience, Google core updates, and many other factors.

See which articles are underperforming, overperforming and which ones are doing just fine and bring enough blog traffic. If you see that an article gets more than 1000 pageviews a month, just leave it. Do not touch it! The traffic of 1000 pageviews a month is an outstanding result, and you do not want to mess that up by adding an extra paragraph or changing the title.

If an article gets less than 500 pageviews, it is underperforming but still has the traffic potential. If the article gets less than 100 pageviews a month, leave them for now. They are not likely to skyrocket to 1000 pageviews a month as they are either not ranked on the first page or do not have enough search volume in general. What you should concentrate on are articles that bring less than 500 but more than 100 pageviews a month. All the following tips on how to generate blog traffic will relate only to such articles.

2. Work with Titles

Titles play an important role in your rankings. While you may be tempted to write the blog to get something off your chest, you should never do this. If you want to know how to increase blog traffic, remember one rule: each article should answer a question people are asking. And the title is the first thing that people see on Google. Make sure that the title summarizes the main idea and question of the blog post.

Title length is also crucial, so you want to keep titles under 60 characters to get higher in Google rankings and increase your blog traffic. The title must include the main keyword you are aiming for and be error-free. You might also need to capitalize the title to make it look better.

A title should also stand out from the rest of the article on the page. If you target the keyword “How to grow avocados?” you might want to say something like “Ultimate Guide on How to Grow Avocado” or “The Best and Easiest Way to Grow Avocado.” Never opt for clickbait titles to attract traffic, but always try to make them more interesting to stand out from the crowd and boost your blog traffic.

3. Make Sure the Content Is Relevant and up-to-Date

Information updates quickly, even if you write about “evergreen” topics. Your blog traffic will quickly disappear if you neglect the freshness of your articles. Try to refresh your articles at least once every two years if you have a lot of content on your website. If you have 100-200 articles, it is more than doable to update your content once or even twice a year to boost the traffic.

Your website should remain fresh as well. Try to add at least 10 new articles every month to keep growing the blog traffic organically and build up your blog’s authority.

4. Do Interlinking

While organic backlinks play an important role in SEO, interlinking must be your priority as well. Try to include at least two links to your other articles that relate to the topic to send more people to as many pages as possible to increase blog traffic and give a signal to Google that your articles are relevant and authoritative. You can try linking to your underperforming blog posts from your top-performing blog posts to level out the number of pageviews.

When you do interlinking, make sure that articles are related so that your visitors would be interested in reading them and give a boost to your blog traffic.

5. Format Your Content

No one wants to read big batches of content that look like one giant set of sentences. Make sure your content is formatted nicely. Bold the most important pieces of information, add relevant pictures, and, most importantly, add tables and infographics.

If you want to generate decent blog traffic, you must provide an outstanding user experience. While it may be time-consuming to create a table, it is definitely good for the traffic. Tables and infographics present the text in a neat and clear way that makes visitors stay on the page longer. It is then indicated to Google that the article is relevant and useful. Thus, it will rank higher and increase your blog traffic significantly.

6. Build up Authority

Decent blog traffic is easier to get when your website has high authority and an excellent reputation in Google’s eyes. When updating content, link to authoritative websites with high DA and PA. Try to include as many relevant sources as possible. Governmental websites work the best if you can link to them. However, always make sure that the website is relevant and the article can be used as a source. Do not spam with links trying to boost the traffic.

7. Free Blog Traffic

You can use some platforms as a blog traffic generator. You can use Medium, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, or Pinterest to drive additional blog traffic. But we do not advise you to spend more than one hour daily trying to promote your website. While the content on your website is the most crucial ranking factor, promoting your website on other platforms can give a big boost to your blog traffic and build up the authority in Google’s eyes.

8. Open Comments

While there are many spam comments on the internet, you can use the comment strategy to boost blog traffic. Encourage your visitors to share their opinion, experience, and views in the comment section. However, you will need to manually approve the comments to make sure there is no spam on your website.

9. Improve Your Website’s Speed

The speed of your website directly influences your rankings and hence your blog traffic. Make sure you remove unnecessary plugins and optimize your pictures. No one wants to wait for ages before the content on your website loads, so you have to make sure the website is as fast as possible. Leave as few plugins as possible and always compress the images. If you have ads on your website, they already slow down the speed of your blog and might decrease the traffic. So you need to do as much as you can to make the user experience as good as possible to boost more blog traffic.

Conclusion

If you already have an established blog with good traffic, concentrate on modifying old articles that are underperforming. Sometimes an easy fix can bring a lot more blog traffic than creating new content that will rank for months. Provide outstanding user experience to show Google that your blog has a lot of authority and provides useful information for the visitor. Add tables and infographics to improve the readability of your content. Work with your titles to make them stand out from the rest of the articles on the web.
