Health care apps are absolutely everywhere these days. If you’re not downloading one or two new health care apps each week, you’re probably falling behind in the market and potentially missing out on the latest app that could be life-changing for you personally or professionally. With so many apps out there to choose from, it can be hard to know which ones are really worth downloading, but this list of the 7 best health care apps for women will give you some great options to help make your decision easier!
Lose it!
Although it’s less popular than other health-related apps, Lose It! is one of my favorite weight-loss tools. Logging your daily food intake (which you can do manually or with a barcode scanner) and activity helps keep me accountable for what I eat without feeling deprived—and that’s key when it comes to getting in shape. Whether you have five pounds to lose or 150, check out Lose It!. You just might find yourself being productive instead of eating in front of yet another season finale. —Devon Strolovitch, Mashable lifestyle reporter
MyFitnessPal
The first app most women download is MyFitnessPal. This app allows you to track your calorie intake, weight loss goals, body measurements and much more. It also acts as a very useful food diary, which can really come in handy when you’re trying to slim down or bulk up your physique. I highly recommend downloading it! It’s free! Your choice of iPhone, Android or web-based (as long as you have access to a computer/laptop) device. A great way to lose weight for women: exercise! And there are tons of great workout apps available, but one that has shown me incredible results and features fun workouts, amazing instructors with audio support is Hapilabs Fitness App, which has helped me keep my body in shape – absolutely worth checking out! So many health conditions can be easily alleviated by keeping fit via healthy lifestyle changes.
Period Tracker
When your body is going through a lot of changes, it can be tough to remember if and when you should take your medication, or what day your next doctor’s appointment is. Period Tracker helps you keep all of that info organized in one easy place. You can track moods, symptoms and side effects, medications and appointments—and even receive reminders for each item! All of these features are neatly organized on your phone screen; with one tap you can view everything at once.
Clue
If you’re a woman and looking for an app to help keep track of your period, pregnancy, or fertility, Clue is for you. The user-friendly app allows women to enter and track symptoms like cramps and mood swings, as well as record what they ate that day. Users can also see their daily data in graphs to help them better understand their cycles. Like many other health apps on our list, it lets users share with friends or connect with health care providers. For example, if you have trouble remembering to take your birth control pill at a certain time every day (or just want someone else to remind you), you can set up an alarm via text message alert system.
Ovulation Calculator
Knowing when you’re fertile will help you make smart decisions about your sex life and is key to getting pregnant. Downloading an ovulation calculator app lets you record your basal body temperature, sexual activity, and other data so that you can more easily predict when you’ll be most likely to conceive. (And while it’s not 100 percent accurate, it may help you get a sense of whether or not you should consider visiting a doctor.) And remember: Although it’s possible to get pregnant at any time during your cycle, chances are good for conception during what’s known as the window of opportunity, which typically lasts for about 24 hours—so if you want to play it safe (and have fun) use protection!
PeriCoach
Although it’s useful for both men and women, one of PeriCoach’s most unique features is its tailored messaging to pregnant mothers. According to a 2013 survey by Visiting Nurse Associations of America, nearly two-thirds of women who had had C-sections were overweight before they got pregnant. Furthermore, over 50 percent of postpartum mothers say they gained too much weight during pregnancy. Other studies show that gaining more than 20 pounds during pregnancy—even if you have a healthy diet—can increase your chances of developing high blood pressure and diabetes later in life. Thankfully, there are now health coaches available on your phone to help you monitor how much you weigh, track your nutrition, encourage you when you get discouraged, and alert your doctor if something doesn’t seem right.
WebMD Symptom Checker
Whether you’re concerned about a persistent cough or simply want to know what that rash might be, WebMD’s Symptom Checker tool provides information and valuable insights about various health conditions. With detailed explanations for more than 1,000 health conditions and symptoms, it can help women understand their symptoms and get professional guidance. Overall, it’s a helpful tool for treating common ailments.
